Ceylon Fresh Teas (Pvt) Ltd has always been concerned of its responsibilities from the inception of the company in 2005. The company has first ensured that maximum benefits are granted to our own staff first to enhance their becoming of a fully developed person as our first responsibility. Accordingly the company has given high priority to HR development and has strengthened its benefits.
Secondly, the company has allocated an amount of Rs. 0.25 per every kilo of tea that we export into a fund to launch our CSR programs to the society that directly link to our supply chain. They are mainly the Tea Estate workers mostly living under poverty. The company strongly feels that it is only through education given to their children that these poor families could eventually be redeemed of their poverty. Accordingly, the company identifies the estates that supported our supplies annually and grants a library to the poorest school of that area every year.
Thirdly, our responsibility to the nation is also looked into as we progress with our developments. It is a known fact that exports always brings revenue in foreign currency to the country while inculcating the good name and richness of the country around the globe. We have also developed to be a company that directly supports around 35 families and many more indirectly. The company has also extended its genuine support to families affected from natural disasters and to institutions caring differently able persons in their times of need.
Fourthly, as our responsibility to the future of the trade we have offered our services to the Undergraduates of Uva Wellassa University students who undergo Tea Technology & Value addition Degree for them to gain all their practical experiences in the field of Tea Trade.
The company has assigned much importance to the process of improving a product through research and feedback. All our products are subjected to periodical tasting for quality maintenance and report for further improvement. The exposure with the competitive market through international exhibitions, regular visits and feedback from our agents in Asia, Europe, Russia, Dubai, Middle Eastern and CIF Countries are all recorded as a practice and analyzed by our expertise.
At the same time matters related to the regional markets, new trends and market prices are also analyzed regularly and products are designed to suit and to be attractive to the buying capacity of the tea fans in the region. All factors and finding are forwarded to and discussed in a special weekly meeting compulsory for the Managerial staff with the Directors who are more experienced and familiar with the trend of international Tea market.

Zylanica was the name given to Sri Lanka then Ceylon by invaders which is our main product brand name that resembles the same identity of Nature Island and quality Ceylon Tea in the field of Tea around the world. We at Ceylon Fresh Teas (Pvt) Ltd do pack quality tea under various registered brand names apart from our own brands.
Our aim is to avail this quality tea fresh with its taste and aroma to the reachable markets of tea lovers around the world. Our expertise is very professional in selection of tea from pre-auction stage constantly testing for quality and ensuring its hygiene until the product reaches the yearning hands of Tea fans. This is a long process that includes testing of selected tea to confirm its quality after purchase from auctions and blending them to suit the taste and aroma of people from communities of different cultures around the world with value added attractive packing that suits and links with something of their world while ensuring the genuine character of Pure Ceylon Tea.
Especially in the markets of Russia and CIF countries our company had studied their requirement and their natural attractions before finalizing a product. Last year we were able to introduce another product with Elephant caddy to quench their interest in Sri Lankan Elephant. With the rising demand of flavoured tea this study has influenced the company on a range of flavoured tea products that we have introduced to different markets under various attractive packing including the Pyramid shape packs and tea bags.
The productivity and efficiency at our warehouse is always analyzed and measured against all inputs and its improvements are scrutinized for maximum output by way of manpower, equipment and quality of material in keeping with international standards and norms. Use of manpower is always in keeping with the regulatory provisions of the labour laws, and their productivity is improved with continuous on-the-job trainings provided to outsource manpower supervisors on inspiring, motivating and team work inducing techniques. Similar trainings are provided to the executive and permanent staff periodically and evaluations conducted have proven vast improvements. What is important is that some changes for improved productivity were suggested and made by themselves for our surprise.
Regular employee feedbacks and suggestions made at monthly general meetings are evaluated regularly and they have paved way for improvements to their working conditions by way of introducing of new equipment’s minimizing wastages of time and energy. Some of those introductions are: Band sealers for pouch sealing, sensitive Weighing machines for accuracy and time saving, high capacity Generator to ensure constant productivity.
At the same time the practice of 5S system and ISO standards within the office and warehousing complex have improved the suitable environment for better productive working condition. Apart from this we have used many sign boards with wordings to motivate them and to improve their day to day life patterns. With the proposal of company expertise for productivity improvements, first a new warehousing facility was established along with new machineries introduced to cater new demands when supplying new products that has been introduced to our range of product and to maximize storing capacity. They are Pyramid tea bag making machine, fully automated blending Machine, new Racking system to enhance the storage capacity and modern mechanical sweeper.
Our wish is that tea lovers around the globe have access to quality Ceylon Tea. Therefore, as we develop a product to a specific region and improve our supplies we ensure maintaining of its quality and regular supply and moves on to study requirements and backgrounds of another region that we have come across during our participation in the international exhibitions.
With the participation at international exhibitions through Sri Lanka Tea Board, Export Development Board and on our own, we get in touch with potential buyers who are ready to work with us as sole agent for a specific region under an agreement to ensure uninterrupted availability of our products in that region. We enter these new markets in various brand names. Accordingly we have trod into the following new markets and few new markets are still under study and negotiation.
The company initially outsourced all its shipment productions under our own supervision to other warehousing facilities until 2013. But with the timely strategies imposed by the Director board on improving its assets to enable production under our close supervision and to enhance our potential to meet future demands of export productions has realized the establishment of our own warehousing complex in 2013.
This fully equipped warehousing facility is able to handle large productions within a given time and is able to store tea and material for number of shipments ahead. The complete production process from storing, blending, packeting and loading is handled with all necessary machinery and equipments on our own with close monitoring of standard inspectors to ensure the required standard and hygiene of our products.
With the certification under the ISO 22000:2005 and the industrial laws the environmental concerns are well looked after and catered for. Apart from that the sound pollution is minimized with the introduction of low noise machinery mainly the Generator and the compressors which are fully sound proofed. Better ventilation is ensured with systematically planned structure to avoid congestions.
A highly effective dust collecting system and a methodical disposal system of all waste has been introduced in practice to prevent any environment pollution and the final residues from dust collectors are converted to be used as fertilizer. High boundary walls have ensured cleaner environment preventing access to animals and other hazard generating creatures. The company has started introducing LED bulbs to replace all CFL, Fluorescent and incandescent lamps to minimize the environmental hazard and to support greener environment.
It is admirable to note that some of the fluorescents lamps were replaced by our own staff with their inventiveness. Apart from above good practices the company has selectively avoided the use of either petroleum products or gas in the use of our production process boosting the concept of greener environment.
We believe that one of the key factors of success in competitive export is the hygiene of its products and customers place trust on us to have their shipments carried out under a cleaner production process. To ensure these special procedures are in practice from the time a person enters the warehousing complex until he checks out. Every person entering the premises has to wash their hands and feet and use separate wares to cover their bare feet, hands, face and head which are specially allocated to be used only within the complex. Sets of foot ware, gloves, masks and caps are availed at the entrance of the warehouse and they are in use as a practice. Even the executives and supervisors are using an overcoat apart from them. A modern facility building with hygienic WCs, rest rooms with emergency medical facility and lunch room has been provided to cater the cleanliness and hygiene of work force in a separate building to ensure their well being and cleaner environment.
With the consent of the buyers we always arrange an internationally recognized firm for monitoring standards and hygiene for every shipment production undertaken at the warehouse and their certification is always stamped with the cargo.
All waste is selectively collected to separate them as decomposing and non-decomposing waste methodically as food waste, paper material and glass & metal with separate colour bins placed at fixed points and have ensured daily dispose of same from the premises in separate bags well sealed. The waste management and cleaner production environment is also ensured with ISO 22000:2005 system practices imposed in our daily schedules.
Ceylon Fresh Teas (Pvt) Ltd is a company with a heart and believes that the fullest growth of every staff member is the company at its best and has offered one of its Directors to personally monitor all matters related to HR and its development giving high priority. All HR related matters are discussed in weekly meetings with Managers and necessary solutions are forwarded without delay. On monthly general meetings where every employee participates, a mandatory time is allocated for personnel issues and suggestions in the agenda.
Staff motivation on positive thinking and moral development with life skill base training & personality development workshops are conducted annually for all staff conducted by renowned lecturers. All executives related to personnel handling is sent for regular updates and trainings through paid seminar and workshops on company account to help develop the employee.
Apart from above provisions to improve their capacities the company awards the best employee and the best performer awards every year at their annual year end party which is participated by all staff with their families to encourage and admire the employee.
A medical scheme to cover and support staff health issues on both outdoor and indoor categories are in practice and are renewed annually for the benefit of our staff and their families. Apart from this special incentives are offered on special milestones of their lives to encourage their fullness and support those events by the company. Some of them are cash awards for every new born baby, scholarships for higher studies of their selected children, annually presenting of books and other school items to all children, special contributions made on their weddings and vehicle & transport allowances.
All staffs with their direct families are afforded with a two day annual trip and the year-end party on company account. Apart from above the staff is availed with a modern office building and a warehouse complex to work in a very attractive and homely atmosphere.
The company has spent enormously for the safety precautions of its workers and this has also been a part of requirements for some of the certifications and labour requirements too. The warehouse has been well demarcated with hazard areas for safety during work and proper emergency exits is well identified and marked for safety of the worker in case of emergency. Moreover, everyone is provided with mask and other safety wares to protect their health and a medical room has been organized with first aid facility and a vehicle has been allocated to cope with any emergency situation
Every six month all the workers are directed to a visiting Doctor for medical checkup and treatments are followed up accordingly. To encourage and induce healthy life patterns and hygiene of the workers adequate hand washing units, wash rooms, decent WC units, rest rooms and well equipped dining halls have been established in a separate facility building meant for the better health practices of our workers.
The company has planned the structure of all our buildings to maximize the use of natural light and ventilation with natural wind blow. This is achieved by way of placing glass windows to accommodate more lights and induce flow of hot air out by planning the direction of the building with study on wind and light patterns.
The CFL & Fluorescent lamps are being replaced gradually with LED bulbs to save electricity and to support environment and a project is under way to study and introduce solar panels to minimize the cost of our energy requirement from the national grid. All the Heat related machines has been scheduled to be operated with maximum productivity in short times as possible to avoid unnecessary warming and energy saving.
Apart from that breakdown of electricity usage is closely monitored with its timeline to minimize energy waste and to reduce the demand usage. All machineries are closely monitored for their performances with check-listed statistics gathering for analyzing to minimize the energy wastage.
